We are very proud to present
Northfield Framing & Fine Art Printing
Est. August 2019

Since opening Red Wing Framing & Fine Art Printing in 2002, our goal has been to create a triple focus of certified custom framing shops which are easily accessible to a large portion of south central Minnesota and western Wisconsin. With the addition of Northfield to our Red Wing (2002) and Rochester (2014) outlets, our dream is being realized. We are grateful to our customers, friends, families, and business supports who have helped make this happen. Thank YOU!

Our new shop is located in the beautiful Bridge Square of downtown Northfield, MN. The area has ample parking along streets and neighboring lots, and our design and retail shop has fantastic mojo. Northfield is a community rich with industry, agriculture, arts and culture, a fantastic foodie scene, and two prestigious universities, Carleton College and St. Olaf College.

In addition to our wide selection of custom framing samples and fine printing offerings, we are excited to offer readymade frames, framed and loose prints, original art, artisan crafted jewelry, handmade quilts, bags, and notions, pottery and Motawi art tiles, art cards, and fine gift items. Please stop by and see us Thursday (11-7pm) and Friday/Saturday (11-5pm)! Shop our wares, design a project with our master framer, take a seat in our comfy chair, and enjoy the opulence and warmth of our brand new space.

“Come on in, the framing’s fine!”

Happy Holidays from Valerie, John, and Clare. We are grateful for your business and friendship, and look forward to seeing you soon! In the meantime, sing along…

That probably came out wrong.

We have been very busy and sometimes things like customer communication can get caught between the cracks.  Sorry.

But hey, it’s all good.  We promise to try harder to do better at being better.

Harder.

SignWe are still struggling with signage issues.

As part of solving this angst, we visited Mike Meyer – Sign Painter in Mazeppa, MN.

Mike is an old school sign painter and we had a good time.  There are more images from our visit over here at Red Wing Digital.

The Rochester shop is finally open and art is beginning to appear on the walls.

We have opted for a ‘quiet’ opening for the time being because the work load right now is nearly overwhelming.  Once we get the near term deadlines out of the way, we will begin to think about some kind of exciting opening event.

We have been driving back and forth between Red Wing and Rochester for the last several months and it is impossible not to notice how lush this years’ corn and bean crop look.

We need a few weeks of stable weather (not too dry and not too wet) and it should be a bountiful crop.

The Rochester shop will have a soft opening next week, so we are almost ready to harvest as well.

Okay, that wasn’t the smoothest of  transitions, but I am too tired to be clever.

Thoms

We first started working with Matt eight years ago when he was a senior in high school. He only needed mats cut because he was building his own frames.

But he wasn’t just building his own frames. He was milling his own frame profiles and staining and waxing the wood. His attention to detail was remarkable and his skill as a carpenter was undeniable.

Matt has since graduated from college, gotten married and has two children. But he still maintains a very complete wood shop. As Matt puts it, “shop time is good time”.

And when it came time to have custom cabinetry built for the new Rochester location, it was an easy decision.

Whitey-tightie

It has taken a long time (too long) to get the new shop to this point.

This point is the point in which we can begin tailoring the space to our design aesthetic.

The goal will be to create a design environment that is comfortable and simple.

It shouldn’t be too much longer.

The floor is finished, which was a bigger project than anticipated.  The concrete floor under the original carpeting was very uneven so the entire floor had to be ground down before the tile could be installed.

It is a porcelain tile floor, so it should stand up for a very long time.  Because the space is long and narrow, it was hoped that creating a diagonal pattern would create the illusion of the floor being larger than it is.

The new cabinets should arrive within a week and then the Cambria design surface can be ordered.
